As its name “Yorkshire Terrier” or “Yorkie” is named for the city in England, where he was for many years. He is a fearless, energetic and assertive dog. Yet he is very lively, affectionate and happy. He is not a dog who can be left alone in a yard or open space; he needs human companionship, closeness and always likes to be near you.

Yorkie loves daily morning walks, long walks and even traveling too. When you are outdoors, the dog should always be leashed in a safety-enclosed area. He prefers to chase after small animals ever never hesitate to confront with much larger dogs. This handsome Yorkshire Terrier dog is 9 to 10 inches tall and weighs 5 to 7 pounds. It has a long and straight coat. The color of his coat may be the combination of blue & gold, blue & tan, black & gold or black& tan.
His coat only needs to be brushed intermittently, and is brusque short every few months. His show coat should be brushed for 15 to 20 minutes daily to prevent mats and tangles, and should be trimmed every 6 weeks. Although his popularity dipped slightly during the 1940's, but he has risen since to become the world's most popular terrier breed pet dog. In AKC popularity parameter this dog (Yorkshire Terrier) was 2nd out of 157 breeds in 2007.
