Facts about Dogs Airedale Terrier Breed Information and Airedale Terrier Puppies Pictures

Airedale Terrier or simply Airedale is a breed of Terrier dogs and the name Airedale comes from the place Airedale, a geographical region in Yorkshire, England. Airdale terrier is also often known as "King of Terriers', as it was the largest of all the terriers until a new larger breed known as Black Russian Terrier was developed by NKVD, a famous Secret Police Organization of the Soviet Union during the era of Stalin. Airdale was originally bred to hunt otters in the valleys of the River Ire in Airdale and due to which it is also known as Waterside Terrier. Besides being a hunting dog, in many countries including England Airedale is also used as Police Dog.

Although large Airedales weighing up to 55 kg are also found in some parts of the world but an average male generally weighs 25-30 kg and stands tall at around 60 cm (24 inches), female Airedales being slightly smaller. The coat of Airdale is black and tan with a harsh overcoat and a soft undercoat. The coat is hard, wiry, dense and medium length and lies close to the body. Most of the Airdale dogs are used as working dogs and hunting dogs because of their extraordinary speed of chasing animals, abilities to hunt independently and alertness.
